Trusts Affiliated to STFS

Whilst the Foundation School is responsible for issuing educational approval for Foundation Training Programmes within its associated NHS Trusts and overseeing the management of Foundation Trainees within those programmes, Foundation Trainees are employed by, and have contracts with, individual NHS Trusts. Please note that each Trust may have slightly different local practices/arrangements (within national NHS policies/guidelines).

Each NHS trust has provided lists of the August 2012 F1 and F2 programmes available, as well as more detailed information regarding individual placement descriptions. Programme lists are available to download and more detailed information is available on each individual trust page. Please note that the data for individual placement descriptions and specific programmes is provisional and may be subject to change. Precise details of rotations are subject to service delivery requirements of the NHS and subsequent confirmation by employing trusts.

Service reconfiguration in the NHS

Across the UK many NHS hospital trusts are undergoing service reconfiguration, and these include some linked to STFS. Any major service changes often also result in changes to training programmes, for example when a specialty is moved to another site.

If you are a foundation doctor appointed to STFS via the national allocation system you are guaranteed a 2-year programme within STFS (provided that you progress satisfactorily). If your programme has to be changed then STFS will ensure that your revised programme still gives you the opportunity to meet all of the requirements of the FP curriculum.

We endeavour to provide as much information as possible as soon as it is available, and choice of revised programmes where feasible. If you have any concerns about potential changes at your current trust we would recommend discussing this with your local foundation training programme director in the first instance.
