The STFS Careers Team has produced a set of resources to enable foundation doctors to prepare for applications to specialty training. It is widely accepted that by practising your interview technique you are increasing your chances of selection into the specialty of your choice. The ‘Preparing for Specialty’ resource pack is intended for you to use with your colleagues to practise responding to typical specialty-specific questions that you could face at interview. Many of you may not have had an interview for some time (not since getting into medical school) and you are advised to prepare as best you can for selection, which is highly competitive. Please download these resources and use amongst your peers as you prepare for selection into the next stage of your career…beyond Foundation.

There is also a set of 4 short videos filmed in Brighton in June 2012 to accompany the pack which show insights and tips from STFS foundation doctors who were successful in selection into their chosen specialty.

The videos feature:

Chris – talking about clinical radiology (video lasts 4 minutes, 36 seconds)

Tanj – talking about core surgical training (video lasts 7 minutes, 49 seconds)

Izzy – talking about core medical training (video lasts 7 minutes, 29 seconds)

Mungo – talking about general practice (video lasts 5 minutes, 8 seconds)
