Certificates of Merit
Certificates of Merit are awarded at the end of the F1 or F2 year to up to 10% of doctors within STFS.
The following limited number of categories are available:
F1
i. Foundation Learning Portfolio Merit
ii. Audit Merit
iii. Leadership Merit
iv. Contribution to Teaching Merit
F2
i. F2 Foundation Learning Portfolio Merit
ii. F2 Audit Merit
iii. F2 Contribution to Teaching Merit
iv. F2 Leadership Merit
The number of Merits available per Trust is determined by the number of trainees i.e.
- Up to 30 per F1/F2 year = 1 nomination per category
- Up to 60 per F1/F2 year = 2 nominations per category
- 60 or more per F1/F2 year = 3 nominations per category
Foundation Faculty Groups decide on the exact mechanism for agreeing nominations locally.
Nominees must have completed all of their assessments, be progressing well and be expected to be signed-off.
In addition to those nominated by Trusts, a small number of Merits are awarded by STFS for outstanding Foundation School-wide work, e.g. outstanding committee representation.
Foundation Faculty Groups may, in exceptional circumstances, nominate an individual for a specified outstanding contribution.
Nominations should be agreed by Foundation Faculty Groups at their June meeting and forwarded to STFS by no later than Friday 8 July 2011.
STFS will confirm nominations from Trusts and issue Certificates of Merit by Friday 22 July 2011.
