BAPEN e-learning website

There are three modules, which have been developed on behalf o fthe British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN).

The modules are:

  1. disease related malnutrition
  2. methods and monitoring of artificial nutrition support
  3. ethics and legal aspects of artificial nutrition support

They contain some relevant material, case studies and MCQ questions and it is possible to generate a certificate at the end once a minimum mark has been obtained (the MCQs can be taken as often as desired to achieve this).  They are aimed at foundation year doctors and core trainees and take about 2 hours to complete.

They are available at the following link on the BAPEN website: http://www.bapen.org.uk/elearning/.  You will need to create a new user account.

Over the last couple of years the Department of Health’s e-Learning for Healthcare team has been developing on-line learning modules for use by foundation doctors. There are now over 60 modules, with more following, to cover much of the foundation curriculum.

SIRSI library management system

The SIRSI library management system has a new end-user interface.  The new interface offers a host of useful services that will be of direct benefit to Deanery staff and trainees.  As well as providing a simple search tool to provide access to the combined book and journal stock of KSS healthcare libraries, the new portal allows end-users to:

  • Identify and apply for membership of their local NHS healthcare library
  • Apply for an Athens account, providing access to a wealth of online resources including: databases (e.g. MedLine, PsycINFO) and full-text access to healthcare journals
  • Manage their own user account (requests and renewals etc...)
