Being a trainee representative

“Trainee representation is one of the best ways to feedback both good and bad points to South Thames Foundation School.

At a Hospital and Trust level there are representatives in both the F1 and F2 year groups. They can collate feedback from their colleagues at that hospital, to address local issues as well as feed-on any issues that they feel are more widespread, or that they are having problems dealing with at a local level.

At South Thames Foundation School level representatives, such as myself, will then collate feedback from the various hospital representatives to try and look for, and address, any issues diffused throughout the Foundation School. For example, most recently we have been able to produce some new guidance for entitlement to teaching, so that the teaching throughout the Foundation School is more consistent.”

How Foundation Doctor Representatives Are Selected

STFS is keen to ensure that the views of foundation doctors are adequately represented at all of the relevant local/national meetings. During August, foundation doctors are invited to express their interest in being a representative on various committees/groups by submitting a 100 word statement explaining why they wish to take part and how they would ensure that they represented the views of their peers.
