1. Introduction

The application period for both Foundation Programmes and Academic Foundation Porgrammes is now closed.

LaSE AFP AUoA has undertaken a shortlisting process and will invite short-listed applicants to attend an interview. LaSE AFP AUoA will be holding six interview sessions, one hosted by each medical school.

30 November 2016 - hosted by QMUL

12 December 2016 - hosted by SGUL

14 December 2016 - hosted by UCL

15 December 2016 - hosted by Imperial

16 December 2016 - hosted by BSMS

05 January 2017 - hosted by KCL

Applicants will be advised of the status of their LaSE AFP application on Friday 18 November 2016. Interview slots will be bookable via Oriel and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. Applicants invited to interview will be required to schedule their interview by 12:00 noon on Tuesday 22 November 2016. It will be assumed that applicants who do not schedule their interview by this deadline have declined the offer of an interview and will be withdrawn from the LaSE AFP process.

Details of the LaSE AFP interview process together with maps, directions and full postal addresses for interview sites are available here. A copy of the travel expense claim form and associated guidance is also available here.

Further information for applicants is available in the UKFPO FP/AFP 2017 Applicant's Handbook (see http://www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk/pages/academic-programmes/how-to-apply). The handbook includes full details of each step of the process and what applicants need to do to prepare in advance.

Oriel can be accessed at http://www.oriel.nhs.uk/Web/Account/LandingPage

2. Applying to the London and South East (LaSE) Academic Foundation Programme Academic Unit of Application

2a. Prospectus

The London and South East (LaSE) AFP Prospectus for August 2017 entry contains detailed information about applying to the LaSE AFP AUoA. Programme details are contained in Appendix B. A copy is available to download from the right hand side of the page. This was updated to version 2 on 28 September 2016.  Please ensure that you read it carefully.

LaSE AFP will not require you to submit a CV.

In response to a number of enquiries last year, this is to clarify that when applying to LaSE AFP AUoA you will not be required to upload evidence on the academic application form. However, you may be required to provide supporting evidence at a later date if requested to do so as part of an audit of applications.

2b. Programme data

A spreadsheet summarising all of the available programmes is also available to download from the right hand side of the page. This has been created with an AutoFilter facility in case you wish to view a subset of data.

Successful applicants are recruited to a specific 4 month academic F2 post e.g academic GUM. This post sits within a generic 2 year foundation programme with 5 other clinical placements, balanced to enable acquisition of foundation competences. Applicants should note that clinical placements are subject to change dependent on service need and are provisional until confirmed by the employing Trust.

2c. Programme data update schedule

Initial programme data was published in August 2016. Trusts have since advised LaSE AFP AUoA that they have reviewed their programmes and some details have been updated. These changes have been updated on Oriel and have been highlighted in yellow on the spreadsheet on the right hand side on the 4 January 2017.

2d. Person specification/appeals process

A copy of the following documentation is also available to download from the right hand side of this page.

  • LaSE AFP Person Specification
