Any Additional Information |
The Guys & St. Thomas’ Trust is one of the largest Trusts in the NHS, resulting from the merger of the two hospitals in 1993 and with an annual turnover of £600 million and ¾ million patient contacts per year. The Trust comprises two of London’s oldest and best known teaching hospitals, which have a long history dating back almost 900 years. St. Thomas’ Hospital is situated on the south bank of the River Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament and Guy’s Hospital is adjacent to London Bridge near Borough market and Southwark Cathedral. The Trust is a specialist centre for the South Thames Regions, providing cardiac, vascular, thoracic, renal, paediatric, oncological and other services as well as the Dental Hospital and St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin. The Trust treats over 72,500 in-patients, 146,000 day cases and 497,000 out-patients each year. The former United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals joined with Kings College Hospital in 1998 to form the largest medical and bio-science school in the UK. GKT now trains over 400 medical, 150 dental and 450 nursing students per year. |
